Garda seriously injured after van driven at them in Co Louth

A Garda has been seriously injured after a van was driven at them in Co Louth.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued after the incident in Ardee at about 4.20am on Friday.

Gardai were on patrol in the Clonmore Estate when they were approached by a van that was parked.

The van was driven at them and hit one garda who had exited the patrol car to investigate.

He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses and people with video footage to come forward.
