A driver has been caught travelling 128kmh in a 100kmh zone as part of National Slow Down Day.

National Slow Down Day is a Garda operation reminding drivers to comply with the speed limits.

In the first five hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speeds of 37,777 vehicles, and detected 68 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

These figures are based on GoSafe detections only. They will be higher with An Garda Síochána personnel detections, which are not available at the moment.

A driver was caught speeding 94km/h in a 60km/h zone on the N4 between Drishoge and Carrick-On-Shannon in Roscommon. Another driver was detected going 113km/h in a 80km/h zone on the R245 near Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
