'He was always smiling' - Tributes paid to man killed after deadly wasp sting

Tributes are being paid after the death of Cork man Michael Sheehan following a deadly reaction to a wasp sting on Tuesday, November 5.

The 56-year-old was cutting hedges in Macroom when it's believed he accidently disturbed a wasp nest, leading to him being stung multiple times and taking a reaction.

An Garda Síochána said that they, along with emergency services, responded to the incident and Mr Sheehan was pronounced dead at the scene after returning home and collapsing after complaining of feeling unwell.

His RIP.ie notices says: "Michael (Mick) beloved husband and best friend of Carmel, loving father of Conor, Katie and Áine and devoted dog walker of Floss and Archie. Dear son of Norma and the late Raymond (Ray), brother of Margaret. Deeply regretted by his extended family, many friends and kind neighbours."

Friends and family have been paying tribute to him. One friend wrote: "My deepest sympathy to Carmel, Conor, Katie and Aine for the passing of your beloved husband and Dad. Mike was always smiling, laughing and in great form when you'd meet him in the golf club."

A former colleague added: "Deepest condolences on Mike‘s passing to Carmel, Conor, Katie, Aine and the Sheehan family. Mike was a true professional and an excellent colleague down through the years. His real joy was achieving his well deserved retirement and I know he greatly enjoyed his time at home in Macroom since then."

A further condolence read: "Our deepest sympathies to Carmel, Conor, Katie and Áine, and to Michael’s mother Norma and the extended family on his sudden and tragic passing. Mike was one of life’s true gentlemen with an amazing brain and great sense of fun, always willing to give of his time, we are thinking of you all at this very difficult time, May he rest in peace."
