Woman in court after stealing handbag with contents worth €1,000 in Midlands hotel

A woman pleaded guilty to stealing a handbag in a Midlands hotel during last week’s sitting of Tullamore District Court. 

The defendant, Emma O’Connor, 43 Glendaniel, Tullamore stole a handbag with contents worth €1,000 in the Bridge House Hotel on December 17, 2022. 

Sgt James O’Sullivan told the court that Ms O’Connor was socialising in the hotel at 2.30am when she took a handbag belonging to another woman.

“The handbag contained a phone worth €600 and make-up worth €250. The phone was subsequently found but the bag and its other contents were never subsequently retrieved.” 

The defending solicitor said his client had very little recollection of what happened. Sgt O’Sullivan pointed out that CCTV footage showed her with the bag.

The solicitor said his client was pleading guilty.

“This offence was very much out of character for her. She deeply regrets it and is very apologetic.” 

Judge Andrew Cody said he wouldn’t convict on this occasion.

Supermarket in the Midlands forced to close due to massive ESB bills

He adjourned the case to June 14, 2023 and asked the defendant to pay €400 in compensation on that date.
