Establishing itself as an annual festive event, The Abbeyshrule Christmas Lights Tractor Run takes place next weekend. This year's run is on Sunday, December 11 and starts in Abbeyshrule airfield. Registration from 3pm with tractors starting on the journey at 5pm.
The route will take tractors through Abbeyshrule, Colehill, Tashinny, Barry, Foigha and Ballymahon with lots of vantage points along the route for people to gather and view.
The chosen charity for this year is Cian's Kennels, a Killashee based charity which brings pets closer to sick children and their families.
Event organiser John Maye thanked everyone who supported the event so far, “We decided this year to stick with a Longford based charity to keep it local and support local.
“We have local YouTube star Farmer Phil coming along also. Himself along with his farm shop Stewart Family Farm have kindly donated five vouchers which will be given to best decorated of each of the following; modern tractor, old school tractor, lorry, unusual vehicle and best driven by a female.”
John had some advice for participants, “Cost is €20 per tractor. If drivers could have the proper change ready it will speed up registration.
“For the drivers we do a lap of the runway which last year proved very popular for all the drivers to see each other.
“There will be refreshments served for all drivers. This area is strictly tractors only and not open to the public.”
A raffle is also taking place with tickets available from the organisers or in Ballymahon Auto Parts shop.
Tickets are €5 each and local businesses have been very supportive to the Tractor Run organisers offering and donating prizes.
