Longford fireworks case adjourned for poor box payment

A woman who pleaded guilty to possessing fireworks for sale or supply has been given the opportunity to avoid a conviction by paying a sum of €500 to the court poor box.

Deborah Doyle-Kilduff (34) of 5 Congress Terrace, Longford pleaded guilty to the possession of fireworks without a valid licence.

The charge before the court was that on September 26, 2022 at Dublin Street, Granard, Ms Doyle had in her possession an assortment of fireworks including; Bad Boy, Rain of Terror 16 shot, Firestorm 140 shot, Diamond Stellar fireworks, Ammo 300 rounds, a number of Kapow selection boxes, each of which contained 63 fireworks.

Inspector David Jordan said the offence before the court was that Ms Doyle had the articles for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying them to others contrary to the Explosives Act.
Solicitor for the defendant, John Quinn, told the judge his client had the items for “social and recreational” use. Inspector Jordan pointed out that under caution Ms Doyle admitted supplying the fireworks to family and friends.

Judge Bernadette Owens said the defendant could avoid a conviction by making a payment of €500 to the court poor box at the next court sitting.

Another charge against the defendant that she was unlawfully in possession of €300 worth of cannabis on October 21, 2021 at 5 Congress Terrace, Longford was due to be dealt with on March 28.
A charge of possession of the cannabis for sale or supply was withdrawn by the State, and a disclosure order relating to the evidence in the case was made to Mr Quinn.
