An “appalling alcohol problem” was at the root of the problems that saw a 52 year old man fined for public intoxication.
Grigorijius Sibika (52) of Top Flat Keanes Garage, Strokestown Road, Longford entered a plea of guilty to the public order charge.
Sergeant Mark Mahon told the court that officers were called to Market Square, Longford on November 18, 2022. When the Gardaí arrived they found Mr Sibika in a highly intoxicated state, walking around with an empty bottle of vodka in his hand.
The defendant was arrested for his own safety and the safety of others.
The court heard that Mr Sabika has seven previous convictions; including possession of cannabis, possession of a firearm and criminal damage.
Solicitor Frank Gearty said his client is from a decent family, all of whom are working and contributing to the State. Mr Gearty said the father of three children has developed “an appalling alcohol problem” and is facing “a fairly serious” charge in the Circuit Court.
Taking the facts of the case into consideration Judge Bernadette Owens imposed a fine of €150, giving the defendant four month to pay.
