St.Art is an exciting innovative project that aims to restore existing street art in Longford town as well as commission new murals.

A new initiative celebrating and revitalising public art in Longford Town has officially begun.

Engage Longford, an “artists-led not-for-profit initiative that provides a platform to promote Longford as a hub for contemporary visual art”, made the announcement on their Facebook page accompanied by a picture of the work commencing.

St.Art will involve the restoration of existing street art, as well the commissioning of new murals.

A “a self-guided art trail of Longford's outdoor public art gallery” is also in the works. This will enable people to explore and enjoy the street art throughout the town.

The initiative builds on the legacy of the street art element of the Cruthú Arts Festival, an Irish midlands arts movement which ran between 2014 and 2019, with Engage having previously been involved in curating the street art element of the festival programme.

Over the coming months, the group plans to restore remaining murals created during the Cruthú years, while also commissioning new works from talented artists.

The group will share updates on artists involved, behind-the-scenes progress and new additions to Longford’s growing collection of public art in the months ahead.

Said Engage in their online post, “We can't wait to breathe new life into existing works while adding exciting new pieces for the community to enjoy. Follow along as we reveal artists, share behind-the-scenes updates, and celebrate the evolving story of public art in Longford.”

“St.Art has officially begun!”
