Disgust over dumping of unwanted clothing and household waste in Longford car park

Members of the public have been encouraged to report incidents of illegal dumping in the town.
The plea from Longford County Council comes following the discovery of dumped clothes and household waste in Annaly Car Park.
The recent incidents occurred just a fortnight after council authorities launched an investigation into the dumping of a significantly large volume of rubbish in Garvey's Close, situated adjacent to Annaly car park.

The spate of illegal dumping have left many disgusted, particularly as the nearby Annaly Estate just recently won the category of Best Large Estate in the Better Estate Awards 2026.
Speaking to the Longford Leader, Longford County Council explained they had not received reports of the recent illegal dumping in the car park and added that the Environment Section would strongly encourage members of the public to report such incidents as all would “be treated seriously” and “investigated promptly.

The spokesperson added, “Longford County Council reminds the public that the illegal dumping of clothing and other waste in public areas is unacceptable and an offence under waste management legislation. Members of the public are encouraged to use authorised textile recycling and waste disposal facilities for unwanted items.”
