The primary schools quiz is one of the biggest events on the North Midlands Credit Union calendar.

The quiz is very much in the spirit of the credit union movement and the role they play in communities. It’s about promoting education and engagement within local communities, and North Midlands CU are proud that it is such a fixture for so many.

It was fantastic to see such a huge turnout of pupils, parents and teachers again this year. There are over 70 schools within the North Midlands CU common bond and with space constraints in venues, much like last year, they deemed it necessary to hold two quizzes over two nights.

The quiz was of a really high standard, and every school performed exceptionally well.

There were two categories: Competition A, designated for pupils under 11 years of age and Competition B, designated for students under 13 years of age.

The first quiz was held in The Mall, Longford on Friday, February 6 where 24 schools took part in the quiz, made up of 43 teams and 172 pupils taking part.

The winners of Competition A, in first place was St Teresa’s NS Killoe, second place was Cloontuskert NS and in third place was Whitehall NS.

The winners of Competition B, in first place was Melview NS, second place was St. Mel’s NS and in third place was St. Teresa’s NS Killoe.

The second quiz was held on Monday, February 9 in the Mullingar Park Hotel with 33 schools, 65 teams and 261 pupils taking part.

The winners of Competition A, in first place was St Mary’s NS Raharney, second place was All Saints NS and a joint third place saw St Patrick’s NS Ballingore and Dalystown NS.

The winners of Competition B, in first place was St. Marys NS Raharney, second place was All Saints NS, and third place was Gaelscoil an Mhuillin.

Big thanks to all the parents and teachers for their continued support of the quiz and to the staff of North Midlands Credit Union for making this event such a success.
