The 2025 Green Flag Awards recognise excellence in parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries
Albert Reynolds Peace Park in Longford has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag, marking its place among Ireland’s best-managed public green spaces.
A Green Flag-raising ceremony took place last week at the Mall, attended by Director of Services with Longford County Council John Brannigan, Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Niall Gannon, members of Longford Town and Suburbs CLG, Community Employment Scheme staff, Longford County Council staff, and students from St Michael’s Boys School, who helped on the day.

The 2025 Green Flag Awards recognise excellence in parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries. Ireland leads the EU this year, with 120 sites receiving the award – the highest number among 174 European locations.
The Green Flag programme, now in 19 countries worldwide, sets the international benchmark for quality green space management. Sites are assessed annually against eight criteria, including environmental care and community involvement.
