Longford County Council have advised farmers to move their livestock and machinery to higher ground this weekend following Met Éireann's warnings of significant rainfall and risk of flooding nationwide.
Posting to their social media, Longford County Council also warned agricultural workers and members of the public not to walk through floodwater as it may be contaminated. They added that canal paths should be avoided "as currents are stronger than usual."
The council further cautioned against going near swollen rivers, streams, and in particular, flooded banks, as they may collapse without warning following persistent heavy rainfall in recent days.
Longford County Council reminded people to keep their phone and/or a power bank charged in case a power outage occurs.
They also posted a number of helplines people can use in the event of an emergency arising.
