Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi has been elected as Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District
For the second occasion, Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi has been elected as Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District. She was previously elected to the role in 2021.
At the Longford MD annual general meeting on Tuesday, 24 June in Áras an Chontae, her party colleague, Cllr Kevin Hussey was elected Leas Cathaoirleach for the year ahead.
The new Cathaoirleach said it’s an enormous honour to be elected.
Cllr Adejinmi added, “I’d like to thank my family. I look forward to working with the Municipal District team. We have a very dedicated team. I’m looking forward to continuing the work for the next twelve months.”

Fine Gael’s Cllr Peggy Nolan extended congratulations to the new Cathaoirleach. “I know you love the town. It’s so important we work as a team. To say you’re capable is an understatement. It’s brilliant to see a woman in the chair. It’s going to be a busy year. We’re all here for the betterment of Longford. You lead, and we’ll be as supportive as possible.”
Outgoing Cathaoirleach Seamus Butler reflected, “I’d like to thank all my fellow councillors. We’ve had an interesting year in many ways. We may have had different views at times, but we all have the best interests in our district at heart.”
The new Leas Cathaoirleach, Cllr Hussey thanked Cllr Adejinmi for her support and assistance during his first year as an elected member. “Any questions at all, you were always a phone call away and I’m looking forward to working alongside you.”
