Talented young Longford boxer Andrew Nugent wins his second All-Ireland title

Irish Youths Boxing Champion Andrew Nugent

St Mel’s College student Andrew Nugent won his second All-Ireland Youths Boxing title on Friday night at the National Stadium in Dublin.

Andrew, who is affiliated to the Olympic Mullingar Boxing Club, came up against two time Irish champion Jonathan McDonagh from the Avona Boxing club Dublin.

Andrew boxed a perfect fight in his division with great movement and fast scoring attacks and won his final 5-0 to become two time All-Ireland champion and the Longford lad also beat the  Connacht champion 5-0 in the semi-finals.

It's been a great few weeks for Andrew, picking up his 3rd Leinster title in Kilkenny in March to see off opponents from Kildare and Wexford.

He now moves forward to next weekend where he will box off with the winner having the honour of representing Ireland in the Four Nations Tournament in Glasgow which will also involve boxers from England, Scotland and Wales. Best of luck Andrew.
