Gold medal winners at the Community Games finals: Longford South and Town Under-14 boys 4 x 100m relay squad of Darragh Lyons, John Fitzpatrick Jr, Andrew Fitzpatrick, Dillon Walsh and El'nathan Okoh

County Longford’s proud tradition in Community Games athletics continued over the weekend at the National Finals in Carlow. There were many brilliant results and congratulations to all the girls and boys for doing so well and for having qualified for All-Irelands. The weekend’s highlights, from a Longford perspective, included three Gold medal winning performances.

The Longford South and Town Under-14 boys 4 x 100m team of Andrew Fitzpatrick, El’nathan Okoh, Dillon Walsh and John Fitzpatrick Jr put on a masterclass of relay running claiming Gold in the final with a 51-second clocking. The quartet was backed up by reserve runner Darragh Lyons.

Andrew’s work wasn’t finished as he took Gold also in the Javelin setting the longest distance with a great throw. Lanesborough’s Andrew Nolan also shone in the field with a Gold medal win following a strong display in the U14 boys Shot Put.

The medals didn’t end there. Vilte Krasikova, of Longford South and Town, sprinted her way to silver in the girls U12 100m with a very impressive run and is eligible for the age group next year too. Clonbroney’s Oran O’Neill ran a superb race in the U12 boys 600m to claim the bronze against strong competition.

Seán Clendenning rounded off a successful weekend for Longford South and Town when taking the bronze in the boys U10 60m hurdles. Mostrim’s Willow Parker enjoyed sprints medal success also bringing home bronze after the U14 girls 100m.

Congratulations to all medalists. There were a number of finalists and many other excellent results recorded by Co. Longford athletes, plus Longford AC members from neighbouring counties, during an action-packed programme of events. Well done to all.
