Congratulations to the Co. Longford under-16 5km team of Rian McCaffrey, Daniel Higgins, Conor Brennan and Luke Morgan who combined to win gold at the Community Games National finals in Meath on Sunday last.
A brilliant run by Rian saw him win individual Gold to become the first winner from Longford of the boys marathon event since Willie Farrell of Lanesborough in 1977. Rian showed great strength to cross the line first after a competitive race and claimed a well deserved national title.
Daniel, Conor and Luke followed soon after with excellent runs to ensure the quartet’s points score was good enough for the win with Longford's first ever team Gold in the marathon.
The Longford girls’ team of Darcey Brady, Sophia Carey, Alisha Manning and Sarah Taitt each put in strong performances in their 5km with the group only narrowly missing out on a team medal.
