Longford boxer Andrew Nugent crowned All-Ireland champion

In a great achievement, Longford boxer Andrew Nugent was crowned Boy 2 35kg All-Ireland Youth champion last weekend in the National Stadium, Dublin.

Andrew, who is a 6th class pupil in Scoil Eimear Longford, is affiliated to Olympic Boxing Club in Mullingar.

Young Nugent fought three tough contests to take the National title, defeating the Ulster champion Dylan Stokes on a 5-0 scoreline and in the semi-final he defeated the Munster champion Cody O’Brien on another 5-0 scoreline after putting in 2 top performances.

 In the final Andrew came up against Dublin champion Evan Prunty and what a battle it turned out to be as the Longford warrior emerged victorious on a 3-2 scoreline.
