Longford's Darragh Greene came so close to reaching the semi-finals of the 50m Breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday morning.
Darragh was placed 18th overall with the fastest 16 swimmers qualifying for the next stage for the non-Olympic event.
Greene returned to the pool for his final individual event of the Championships, clocking 27.76 in agonisingly missing out on a semi-final place by just .14 of a second.
The Longford swimming star also produced a very fine performance in the heats of the 100m Breaststroke on Sunday morning, clocking a time of 1:00.71 in finishing 20th overall on the world stage in his quest to qualify for the semi-finals.
Tokyo Olympian Greene is aiming for a second Olympic Games in the individual events with the Irish record holder in the 100m Breaststroke in 59.76 chasing a time of 59.49 to assure qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Darragh is currently on course for the 2024 Olympics as a member of Ireland’s 4x100 medley relay team.
The exceptional Irish quartet are currently 11th in the medley relay rankings with the top 16 countries competing in Paris.
The Irish relay team will be going all out to consolidate their qualification for the Olympics with a major performance in the event at the conclusion of the 2024 World Swimming Championships in Doha on Sunday next.
