Longford picket line video: 'Jack Chambers needs to pull the finger out'
Staff of the Irish Prison Service, whose central headquarters is located in the IDA Business Park on the Ballinalee Road in Longford, told the Longford Leader that all they wanted was for Minister Jack Chambers to come to the table with “a fair deal for everyone.”
Irish Prison Service staff based in Longford have called on Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers to engage in talks with them and to bring to the table “a fair deal for everyone”.
The staff, who are represented by trade union Fórsa, were picketing at the gates of the headquarters on the Ballinalee Road as part of today’s nationwide strike.
The nationwide stoppage saw more than 300,000 public sector workers take to picket lines, with unions seeking progress in negotiations on a new public service pay agreement.
Speaking on camera to the Longford Leader, in footage that can be viewed above, prison service employee Michael Lynch said he hoped an agreement could be reached before next week’s planned strike action.
“I hope that they come to the table and sort it all out,” he said.
“We don’t want to be out here. We’re just looking for a fair deal for everyone. Jack Chambers needs to pull the finger out and come and talk to us. Hopefully we won’t be here next week.”
