A man is due to reappear before Longford District Court in October, charged with money laundering offences.

Sean Heneghan (21), of Ardnacroney, Drumroney, Athlone, Co Westmeath, appeared before Judge Fiona Brennan last Tuesday morning where evidence was given of how his bank account was used in an alleged “money mule” scheme.

Sergeant Mark Mahon, for the state, explained to the court that Mr Heneghan is charged with offences on November 10, 2021, in connection with money laundering.

It is alleged that, on November 10, 2021, a total of €1,824 was placed into the accused's bank account in “a money mule type of scheme”, with the reference 365 Slimezino.

He explained that a number of alleged transactions were made to and from the account, including sums of €3,000, €1,800, and €500.

“But the total amount that the scheme would have benefitted was €1,348,” he said.

Mr Heneghan is due to reappear before Longford District Court on October 1, 2024.
