St Patrick’s GAA

Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Tuesday 24th November 2015. The Jackpot was €2,300. Numbers drawn – 9 / 25 / 27 / 29 – no winner. €50 winners – Johnny Creegan, Crott, Moyne. Kathleen Donnelly, C/o Fosters Pharmacy. The Jackpot on Tuesday night last 1st December was €2,400. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection prior to the draw.

Church Services

For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – this Sunday, 6th December –Morning Prayer Service in Columbkille at 10.00am and Gowna at 11.30am. Holy Communion Service in Carrigallen at 10am and in Arva at 11.30am.

Church of the Sacred Heart

An Inter Church Carol Service will be held on Wednesday, 16th December at 7pm in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva. Rev Hazel Hicks will be the Guest Speaker and everybody is welcome to attend. The Arva Folk Choir will lead the Carols.

Scripture Study

On each Tuesday night at 8pm during the Advent season Fr Hannon will facilitate a meeting for those wishing to read and discuss the Readings for the following Saturday/Sunday Mass. The meetings will be held in the Parochial House and were very successful last year. The first of these was held on last night – Tuesday -and everybody is welcome to attend for the remaining night’s.


The Diocese of Kilmore are organising a Pilgrimage to Krakow for World Youth Day next July for those aged between 18 and 35 years. Booking Forms are available in your local church or from the Pastoral Centre, Cavan Tel 049 4375004,email or download from Sponsorship will be available to 5 individuals from the parish as follows 2 each for Killeshandra and Arva areas and 1 from Coronea area. To avail of the sponsorship, which will be decided by lottery, please submit your details to the secretary of the Parish Council Brian Connolly on or before this Friday, 4th December.

Cash for Clobber

St. Mary’s National School, Arva are holding a Cash for Clobber collection on Wednesday, 16th December 2015. All bags of clothes can be dropped into the entrance hall of the school. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Centenary Book

St. Mary’s National School, Arva, Centenary Book, Copies of the book are still available from the school and local shops. This is a great present for any relatives or friends who did not make it home for the celebrations and a great Christmas present for relatives who are away from home for the Festive Season.

Active Age

Monthly Coffee Morning will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Main Street, Arva on this Friday, 4th December following the 1st Friday Mass at 10am in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva. All members requested to attend and new members always welcome. Gentle Exercises and crafts continue in St. Patrick’s Hall, Arva every Tuesday morning from 10.00am to 12.00 noon. New members always welcome.

Line Dancing

Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva each Thursday night at 8.30 pm for beginners and 9.30 pm for the more advanced. Come along and enjoy a good night’s dancing in a fun and welcoming environment.

Sympathy is extended to Ms Anne Kiernan, Mullabawn, Arva on the death of her father Mr Patrick (Paddy) McKeon, Molly, Aughnacliffe which occurred on Tuesday 10th November at Mullingar General Hospital. Following Requiem Mass in St Colmcille’s Church, Aughnacliffe burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.

Sympathy is extended to Mrs Philomena Gray, Breffni Arms Hotel, Main Street, Arva on the death of her mother Mrs Teresa Clarke, Pottlebrack, Bailieboro which occurred on Sunday, 22nd November at Fairlawns Nursing Home, Bailieboro. Following Requiem Mass in St Brigid’s Church, Tunnyduff burial took place in the adjoining cemetery


Congratulations are extended to Sean and Marie Crowe who were the winners of the beginners section of an Old Time Waltz competition held recently in Moate, Co Westmeath. Sean is formerly from Main Street, Arva and all his old friends are delighted that his obvious talent is at last coming to the fore.

Christmas in Arva

Begins on Saturday week, 12th December from 4pm with Carol Singing on the Market Square and Santa switching on the Christmas tree lights. Then it’s on to St Patrick’s Hall to distribute gifts to all the boys and girls. The Annual Christmas Hampers draw kindly sponsored by the Arva town business people will be held in the hall before Santa leaves on Saturday evening. Christmas Raffle lines for the Hampers on sale in all businesses in the town to help with the cost. Please support and keep our Santa local for the benefit of our rural community and local economy.

Craft & Gift Fair

A fundraising event in aid of the continuing renovations of St Brigid’s Church will be held in Killeshandra Community Centre on Sunday week, 13th December from 6pm to 8pm.
