Book Launch

Orlagh Mc Cann is a 9 year old girl from Corry, Newtownforbes, her proud parents are Michael and Clodagh. Orlagh has written a book called “Sophie’s Christmas Wish”. The book is a short festive story and it’s being published by Book Hub Publishing. Local Rose Daphne Howard is launching the book” this Friday, 13th November at 7pm in Longford Library, so please come along and show your support. The book will be on sale after Friday in local shops in Newtownforbes and Longford.

Craft Fair

Our second annual pre Christmas craft and artisan fair will take place on Sunday, 22nd November in GAA complex, Newtownforbes from 11am to 4pm. For further information please contact Ann on 087 9248816.


A Station Mass is being hosted by Gerry and Elizabeth Moore, Cloonteagh on Friday, November 13th at 8.30pm. People of the area are all welcome.


Bingo on Sunday next, 15th November at 3pm. €2500 in prizes. Come along to support your Local Club and be in with a chance to win big prizes.


We had a very successful meeting last Tuesday and this followed a very enjoyable open night the previous week. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our potential new members and hope they enjoy the goings on at our meetings. A big thank you to the two ladies from Lloyds pharmacy for coming out to speak to us and passing on some very valuable advice. Federation meeting will be held on November 24th in the vintage Moydow, the cookery cup will be held at this meeting and good luck to the members taking part. Lotto continues so stay in to win. Our long awaited calendar will soon be available, all details for ICA for the coming year are on this and there are also some lovely photos as well so don’t say you haven’t been warned, get yours before they sell out. Our night out has been organised for Saturday, December 12th in Barney’s restaurant in Longford. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at 8.30pm, Patricia Macken and Patricia Donegan are on teas, the competition is a Christmas decoration in any medium and as always we have plenty of room at the table for more new members, so come on out and see us, have a cupola and a chat and maybe join us in the new year.

Poetry Night 

Poetry Night: ‘Celebrating Yeats’ poetry night in The Castle Inn Wednesday November 18th at 8.00pm. Come along and enjoy a selection of the poems of W. B. Yeats.

Join in and read your own favourite poem or just sit back and listen! All are welcome.

Friends of Longford Dyslexia

The Final presentation night will be held on Saturday, 5th December in Casey’s. Music by Seamus Farrell. Spot prizes galore. Anyone with sponsor cards outstanding please return as soon as possible to Mick in the Castle Inn, so the final figure can be tallied. A proper acknowledgement will follow post the event.

Clonguish PTAA

The Annual Longford Regional Pioneer Dinner Dance takes place on Friday 13th November in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Music by TR Dallas, tickets €25 and can be purchased from Brendan McVeigh on 043-33-24433 or any committee member. Non pioneers more than welcome to attend.

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing classes  in the Parish Hall Newtownforbes on Friday evenings at 6:30pm for children of all ages and at 8pm for teenagers and adults. Fees €4.50 per child per lesson with an overall family rate of €10.00 per family per lesson and special reductions for those who pay the first Friday of the month. Newcomers welcome. Parents welcome to stay at classes if they wish. Contact Maureen at (086) 3702719.

Benefit Dance

A Benefit night for the family of the late Sean Mulligan, Ballinamuck will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva on Monday 16th November 2015.
