Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the souls of Packie Smith, Ballinagh, Co. Cavan who died on Sunday, 11 October, brother in law of Marie Dalton, Dalystown. Your prayers are also requested for the happy repose of the soul of Margaret Kerrigan, Glasnevin, Dublin who died on Wednesday, 28 October, sister of the late Catherine Murray, Carra. May they rest in peace.

Altar List for the Dead

Please take a list from the Church and write out the names of your dead on it, or use your own paper as a list and return to the box at the front of the Church. There will be two Masses each week during November offered for these and All Souls. The dead will be prayed for at all other Masses offered in the Parish especially during November and on until Christmas.

Faithful Departed

Mass for all who have died in our Parish since November 2014, for those who have died outside our Parish but with family living in our Parish and for former parishioners who died in the last year or so, will be offered on Friday 27 November in Abbeylara Church at 7.30pm. All are welcome.


Sincere thanks to all the people who supported our auction on Saturday, 7 November at the Handball Sports Complex, Abbeylara, by donating items and or by purchasing items at the auction itself. Also thanks very much to those people who organized the auction and to all the people who helped with the running of the auction. It is very much appreciated. All proceeds are for our new Parish Centre, Abbeylara.

Active Age

We are having our Christmas Party in the Bloomfield Hotel on Sunday, 29 November from 12.30pm to 5.00pm.  We will be joining up with other clubs from the Midland Region. A four course meal, raffle for spot prizes and music by the Kavanagh’s.... Price only €25 per member.

Active Age (over 50s)

Members going to the Midland Region Christmas Party in the Bloomfield Hotel please bring money for same to our next get together on Thursday 12 November in Sports Centre from 2.30 to 4pm.  We are looking forward to meeting new people at this meeting.

St. Joseph’s

Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 12 November in St. Joseph’s Care Centre Chapel at 6pm for the souls of all who died at St. Joseph’s Care Centre in the past year for deceased staff members, deceased relatives of staff and all whose removals took place from St. Joseph’s. All are welcome.

Gun Club

The Club wishes to thank all who attended and took part in their recent Longest Pheasant competition on Tuesday night the 3 November. Congratulations to the following winners 1st prize - The Michael McCormack Perpetual Cup, Raymond Reilly Granard Gun Club with a bird of 41 ¼ inch, 2nd Niall Vance Molly Gun Club with a bird of 40 ¾ inch and 3rd place to Andy McManus Abbeylara Gun Club with a bird of 34 ½ inches. Congratulations to Richard Flynn for winning the Vermin Control Frank Smith Perpetual Trophy for 2015. The Club also wishes to thank Josie and staff in Crawford’s Lounge for the use of the premises and for providing refreshments on the night. Thanks also to our adjudicators on the night, Seamus Denning Street, Patsy Cooke Granard and John Boyle Molly. A good night was had by all.

Defibrillator Course

There will be a Defibrillator morning or evening course available in Lus Na Greine subject to sufficient interest. A Professional Facilitator will be running the Course. There will be a Certificate on completion. The Course is limited to 8 places. For further information please call the centre on 043 6660977.

Garda Siochana Choir

Garda Siochana Male Voice Choir will be performing in St. Mary’s Church Granard on Sunday, 15 November at 5.00pm.

Parish Draw

You are invited to renew your membership of the Parish Draw; €100 full year; €50 half year; €25 quarter year. Prizes each month - €300; €200; €100; €50 – provided enough join. New members are also most welcome. Please give your membership to your collector. Thanks very much for your ongoing support of the Parish Draw. Also sincere thanks to our collectors of the Parish Draw. The 2015/2016 draw will begin as soon as you join in the draw. Thanks very much to those people who have renewed their membership. Blood Donors

The mobile unit of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service will visit St. Brigid’s Community Centre on Tuesday, 17 November and Wednesday, 18 November from 4.30pm to 8.00pm each day. Help ensure essential blood supplies are always available by giving blood regularly. It is important that we all remember that many patients in hospitals need our blood and this need never ceases. Benefit Dance

A Benefit Dance for the family of the late Sean Mulligan, Ballinamuck will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva on Monday, 16 November 2015.


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot waiting to be won is now €20,000 and if not won there is a second Jackpot this week for €3,300 in 49 numbers, a lot of shopping could be done with Christmas around the corner even if you never played bingo. Seats are limited so come along early to avoid the rush and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

Draft Register

The Draft Register of Electors 2016/2017 is now being prepared. If you live in County Longford and wish to vote you should check that you are registered correctly to vote. If you have any family members resident in County Longford who will be 18 years or over by 15 February 2016 they may also be registered to vote.
