Truck breakdown

Traffic flow was disrupted for a period of time last Thursday, October 2nd, at the junction of the Mullingar road and the turn off for Benison near Whitehall when the rear axle of a truck became damaged causing a breakdown. Castlepollard Gardai were quickly in attendance and undertook traffic management while waiting for a heavy recovery unit to arrive. There were no injuries reported.

CD launch

Anticipation is mounting locally at the forthcoming launch in Ringtown GAA Centre, Whitehall, Castlepollard, of the new music CD by local musician and singer Mick Galvin, which will take place on Friday night next, October 10th, starting at 9.00pm. Among various other artists featuring on the night will be Matt Leavy and his band. Admission on the night will be 10.00 euro and all proceeds will go towards the Ringtown GAA Player Injury Fund.

Race night

Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club are holding a fundraising Race night in the Lough Lene Inn, Collinstown, on Saturday night next, October 11th. the first race takes place at 9.00pm. Horses are 10.00 each, and cards are in circulation.

Road safety

With the upsurge in involvement in running and cycling, those participating are reminded to ensure that they have high visibility and reflective clothing when out training, and that cyclists have adequate lighting on their bikes. Equally the same applies to walkers in terms of being visible. Motorists are reminded to remain extra vigilant for runners, walkers and cyclists on these darker mornings and evenings.


We extend deepest sympathy to Mr. Tom McNicholas, Ranaghan, Castlepollard, who has been bereaved by the death of his uncle, Mr. Thomas (Tommy) Moran, Jeffreystown, Monilea, Mullingar, and a native of Tooromeen, Bahala, Co. Mayo. The death took place, peacefully, at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014. The remains reposed at Portiuncula Nursing Home, Multyfarnham, on Thursday, September 25th, and removal took place at 8.00pm to The Church of the Assumption, Turin, Mullingar. The funeral took place on Friday, September 26th, following Requiem Mass at 11.00am, with internment immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. the attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representatie of the esteem in which the deceased was held. The deceased is survived by his living wife Norah, sons Andy and Tommy, daughter Marian (Connor), sister Eileen (Clarke), daughter-in-law Ann, son-in-law John, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
