Table quiz

Circle of friends are hosting a table quiz in Longford rugby club on Friday, 14 March at 8.30pm. Table of four persons cost 40 euro plus spot prizes. Raffle on the night. All proceeds in aid of Longford Hospice and everyone is very welcome.


Greetings to young Darren Dooner, up there in Ennybegs, Killoe, son of Michael and Marie. Also his cousin Kian Dooner, son of Kevin and Sandra, Clonee, Killoe, who together celebrated a cool 14th birthday last week and we extend happy birthday to both of you.

Church notes

St Marys Ennybegs Masses Wednesday at 10am, Thursday confirmation at 3pm (no morning Mass), Friday (Wedding Mass), Friday Mass 7.30pm (months memory Teresa Igoe RIP, Kellether), Monday 17 March (St Patrick’s Day), Mass 11am. Sincere sympathy is extended to Kathleen Shaughnessy and families, Graffogue, Ballinalee, Igoe and Shaughnessy families on the sad bereavement of Kathleen’s husband, Mickey (cattle dealer formerly Lettergunnell) who was recently laid to rest. The parish express condolence to his wife Kathleen, sons Gerard, Ronan, Raymond, daughters Michelle, Patricia (Brady), gransdson Michael, son in law Gary, daughter in law Ria, brothers Jack, Colm, Jimmy, sisters Anni Jo (Igoe), Theresa, Alice, Ettie, nephews, nieces, extended families, friends. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Mary’s Church, Granard with burial in Granardkille cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Chernobyl orphanage

Emily and Aisling Hughes, Farragh, Killoe are travelling to the Chernobyl orphanage in Belarus next month and would be grateful for donations of warm hats, gloves scarves or socks, MP3 players, ipods, personal CD players or small toys (in working order for all). Collection points Hughes shop, Ennybegs, Killoe, The Olde Forge, Killoe, Begleys Pub, Killoe or Tel 085 7514551. Sponsorship cards now available in all local outlets to raise monies to buy basic supplies for the orphanage. In return we will be completing the mini marathon for this charity. All travel expenses for this trip will be funded by ourselves.

Get well

We extend good wishes to all parishioners in hospital or recuperating at home. Hope everyone will have a speedy recovery to good health.

Irish motor neurone

The Irish Motor Neurone Association wish to thank everyone who gave so generously towards their recent church gate collection in Killoe parish, raising 661.48 euro. All monies raised will help to find a cure for this illness. In appreciation.

Old Killoe graveyard

Unfortunately some headstones and crosses were damaged during the recent storms and may require repair or stabilisation. We would ask people to visit the graveyard and check their headstones as some are dated back to 1700s and not very legible. Require further information Tel 087 9268585. Booklets titled Resting in Peace in Old Killoe, showing location of headstones/ tombstones now on sale costing 5 euro from any committee member or at Hughes shop Ennybegs.

Community Games

Art Competition: The Community Games Art competition took place on 2nd March 2014. Thank you to all the children that took part and made such a great effort with their art work. Thank you to Mary Cooney for judging the competition and many thanks to the Enybegs Community Centre Committee for the use of the centre on the day. The winners in each age group will go forward to take part in the county final competition which will be held on the 7th June which is later than other years for this competition. The results of the competition are: Girls - Under 8: 1st Ava Finneran, 2nd Casey Foran, 3rd Eimear Igoe. Under 10: 1st Caitlin Hughes. Under 12: 1st Casey Rowley, 2nd Aideen Mulligan, 3rd Rachel Eivers. Under 14: 1st Grace Kennedy, 2nd Anna Moorhead. Boys - Under 8: 1st Paul Eivers. Under 10: 1st Terry Reynolds, 2nd David Moorhead.
