The much anticipated reunion of former Iralco Employees takes place on Saturday night next, October 26th, in Hotel Castlepollard. The event affords an opportunity for former employees of Iralco, from the era 1964 to 2008, to meet and reminisce over times past. There will be music on the night, and finger food. Admission is 10 per person, and tickets are available locally throughout North Westmeath. The “Clock On Time” is 8.00pm., with no specified “Clocking Out” time. Anyone with photographs, memorabilia etc. relating to Iralco from the period 1964 to 2008 is invited to bring them along. The highly anticipated first ever Tullynally Terror Trail takes place this coming Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 26th, and Sunday 27th October, at 6pm. The Trail incorporates the Ghastly Grotto, Wailing Wall, Forgotten Station, Troll Bridge, and the Hound of the Pakenhams. The walks are geared for children 8 years and older, and admission is 8.00 euro for adults, 4 euro for children, and family groups (2+2) 20.00 euro. Hotel Castlepollard is the venue on Sunday night next, October 27th, Bank Holiday weekend, for a Charity Fundraiser in aid of the Kidney Dialysis Unit in Tullamore Hospital. All monies raised on the night will go towards a very deserving cause with affects a great many people. Admission is 10 euro per person, and there will be draw on the tickets for the first Prize of 2 nights B&B in Cassidy’s Hotel, Dublin, Second Prize of a Petrol Strimmer and other prizes. Fancy Dress Disco
Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club are hosting a Halloween Themed Fancy Dress Disco in Collinstown Hall on Thursday night, October 31st, between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. Prizes will be awarded for the most imaginative costumes under the heading of 1) Family, 2) Boy, and 3) girl. Entry fee is 3 euro for adult and juvenile alike, and all are welcome.
Next Friday night, October 25th, sees the opening ceremony of Hotel Castlepollard under new management. The event gets under way at 8pm, and Junior Minister Michael Ring, TD, and Cllr Peter Burke, will be on hand to undertake the official duties. The management extend a cordial welcome to all to attend on the night.
A Jazz night will take place in the Great Hall in Tullynally Castle, Castlepollard, on Tuesday night, October 29th, starting at 8pm. Music on the night will be by Equinox, a five piece band who play a mix of original compositions, and classics by Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Billy Strayhorn etc. Tickets cost 30 euro and include a post-concert buffet in the Tullynally Tearooms following the event.
The last meeting of Castlepollard Gardening Club took place on Friday, October 4th. Mary Stefanazzi, a psychotherapist by profession, gave a very interesting talk and demonstration on the importance of enjoying the garden from the whole area mental health. She gace examples of how to use the produce from the garden to make cards and small gifts. The next meeting takes place on Friday, November 8th, at 8.00pm in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard. Britta Dolan Stewart will give a presentation on Aromatherapy and Relaxation. The competition on the night will be for the best pot plant not wider than eighteen inches. All are welcome.
