Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers trip to Nenagh on the weekend of the 11th to 13th of October was a great success. Sixteen Ramblers arrived in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh on Friday night and throughout the weekend they were delighted with both the comfort and food on offer. On Saturday they were joined by Mary Seymour of Nenagh Walking Club who led them on a climb of Tountinna in the Arra Mountains overlooking Ballina and Lough Derg. After the descent to the foot of Tountinna at the Graves of the Leinstermen it was time for lunch provided by the hotel and carried in the bus. Revitalised by their packed lunch the group continued down along the Lough Derg Way past the stainless steel Millenium Cross on Laghtea Hill to a viewing point near Portroe which looks out over Lough Derg. Brian Nerney collected the group in the bus and they returned to the hotel for a very enjoyable dinner chosen from the great choice on the menu. After Mass on Sunday morning the group went for a walk along the Nenagh River towards Dromineer, covering about two-thirds of the way before returning to the hotel for lunch. A short break in the hotel preceded the journey back to Mullingar where the party arrived at about 5 o’clock to conclude a very pleasurable weekend. The Ramblers would like to thank Mary Seymour, their Guide on Saturday, as well as Ramblers Chairman Brian Nerney who drove the bus which was supplied, as always when requested, by Paddy O’Brien of Rover Coaches in Mullingar. Thanks also to Ramblers Secretary Patricia Bruton who arranged the hotel. On Sunday October 27th Oliver Usher will lead a walk in Mullaghmeen Forest near Castlepollard.

Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet outside the Town and Country pub in Castlepollard at 1.40 before moving on to Mullaghmeen, arriving at 2pm.
