The club would like to express their sincere sympathy to Joseph Coyle and family on the death of Dympna. Down through the years Dympna, together with Helen Marin, served the refreshments at our shoots and social events. Her cheerfulness wit and a smile for everyone will be sadly missed. May she rest in peace. The Club held their AGM on Thursday 25 July. The following committee were elected for the coming year: Chairman: Joe Coyle. Secretary: Tony Lynch. Treasurer: Patsy Cooke. Margaret Sheridan, Aughnagarron, would like to thank most sincerely everyone who sponsored her for the Woman’s Mini Marathon which took place on the 3rd June last. Margaret did the Marathon on behalf of St. Luke’s Hospital. Margaret collected €550 in total.
Country Markets continue in their new venue the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard each Friday morning from 8.30am to 11am with the usual supply of fresh home made baking and organic vegetables.

Lisryan Soccer Club

A day for Factor 50, a big hat, and plenty of water, as the picturesque Athlone venue based in glorious sunshine with temperatures soaring to a sweltering 30 degrees! Oh what a sight!!! Where is the camera when you need it? as 20 Greville Arms golfers headed down the fairways in ‘shades, Factor 50 and behatted in their white Greville Arms attire! Leo Fagan, their young star player shone brightest as he won Captain Brendan’s Trophy. Results: Winner - Leo Fagan. Runner up - Martin Sheridan. Longest Drive- Jimmy Leavy. A Barn Dance in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Research Motor Neurone will be held in Rawle’s Pub Ballinalee on Friday 30 August. Tickets on sale at €5.00 each. The untimely death of Dympna Coyle, (nee Reilly), Balloo, Lisryan, occurred recently. Her body reposed at the family home and was removed to Boherquill Church for Funeral Mass on Friday 26 July following by burial in local cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her husband Joseph, daughters, Louise, Andrea and Georgina, her parents Paddy and Mary, brothers, mother-in-law Bella Coyle, Parnell Row, Granard and extended family. The death of Cait Brady, (nee Brady), occurred at her residence in Lisryan on Friday 2 August following an illness bravely borne. Cait was a native of Granard where many of her relatives still reside. Until earlier this year Cait was a popular member of staff of the Community Employment Project with GAAG. having worked in the Childcare Facility on the Hill and at Rath Mhuire Resource Centre where she was a very popular with fellow workers and clients. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday in Boherquill followed by burial in Granardkille Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her husband Jimmy, sons, daughters, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, her in-laws and a wide circle of friends.
Sympathy is extended to Mary Fox and family Ballywillan, Granard on the death of her father, Edward McKiernan in Cavan recently. May he rest in peace.
This year’s Longford Marathon takes place on Sunday 25 August and once again is sponsored by local bakery Pat the Baker. Many local charities especially St. Christopher’s Longford who alone have benefited greatly since it’s inception in 2002.
