Birth announcement

A warm welcome to baby Daniel Tully, Aughadowry, Ballinamuck, born on July 8th. Congratulations are extended to his delighted parents John and Emma, his big sister Clodagh and big brother Cahal. Golf Society

Outing to new Forest Golf Club, Tyrellspass. Ballinalee Golf Society held their 6th outing of the year in New Forest Golf Club, Tyrellspass. There was a good turnout on the day in warm & dry conditions for golf and the results are as follows: 1st Neil Rawle; 2nd Sean Rooney; 3rd Simon Galeford; 4th Tom Vesey. Longest drive Bob Cleary; nearest pin Bob Cleary. Well done to all our winners. The next outing is to Tullamore Golf Club on Saturday 24th August with tee-off at 9.30am. This year’s weekend away for Ballinalee Golf Society will take place on 18th & 19th October in Dromoland Castle Golf Resort with accommodation at the Clare Inn Hotel. A great deal of 2 nights B & B, 1 evening meal and 2 rounds of golf is available & will cost 150 euro. Please contact Eoin our secretary or any of the committee for further details.

School reunion

We invite everybody to make contact with old classmates to let them know the date for the reunion August 24th. If you have any old school photos please drop them into myself. On the day we will also have the old school roll books for people to look up their names even their attendance. It’s up to each of us in the parish to make the day and night a success. So please make them contacts, don’t wait for somebody else to do it. This covers all schools Lislea, Clonbroney and Ballinalee. We also invite people from the parish who attend Soran NS.

Deepest sympathy

Deepest sympathy to Anne Davis and family Castlebrack on the death of her nephew Bonny McGauren in Cavan last week. RIP.

On Friday August 30th there will be a fundraiser in Rawles in aid of research and care for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Tickets will be on sale shortly.


Hard luck to Sean Connollys who lost by one point on Sat last against Legan in the championship. They play Kenagh on Sat evening at 6pm in Ballymahon. Check fixtures list.


The management and trainees of Longford Employment Development Centre wish to thank all those who contributed to their annual church gate collection recently. St James 66 euro and Holy Trinity Church 150 euro. Much appreciated. Special word of thanks to Mel Forde who took up the collection.


Congratulations to Helen Carrigy, Aughaward and Richard Liddington from England who got engaged recently. We wish them well in their preparations.

Sewage scheme

I have succeeded in getting a 66% reduction in the connection charge for the village sewage scheme which is to be commissioned at the end of this year. This will be for a 3 month period only and will revert from 200 euro back up to 600 euro following this. The schemes will eventually be taken over by Irish Water. At this time it is not known what the charges will be when they are in charge.


The monthly whist will resume on Tuesday 3rd Sept in Currycahill Hall.

Homecoming festival

Fri 9.30 Maguire Park reunion of 1988/89 Sean Connollys GAA team with social in Rawles. Sat 2-6 parish national schools reunion in Scoil-Samthann. Night social in local for different years. Sunday Cemetery Sunday St Emers 2pm St James 3pm. 4.30 Maguire Park 1991 All Ireland winning rounders team V present day team. Refreshments/ bouncy castle face-painting etc.


Colmcille annual ploughing and heritage day will take place on Sunday 18th Aug on the lands of gene & Bernadette Reilly Smear. Ploughing for all classes, old time kitchen & butter making are just some of the skills from the past. Fun events for the family include bouncing castles , face painting dog show/ hen show and much more. Queen of plough dance that night in Murtaghs bar, the Cross Aughnacliffe.
