Community Games

What an exciting weekend for the competitors and their supporters representing Killoe Community Games last weekend in the All Ireland Finals. We were off to a great start last Friday with our U13 Indoor Soccer team winning their semi-final against the Connaught champions Elphin 2-1. Through to the final they then played the Ulster qualifiers from Cavan and unfortunately were beaten 3-1. However they received their silver medals with pride and enjoyed the homecoming party in Ennybegs Community Centre. Thanks to Graham Feeney for the music and to our U16 Singing Group for performing. Also thanks to the Longford goalkeeper Paddy Collum for coming down to show his support. Much thanks is due to this talented team, their parents and their trainers Mark and Mervyn Leonard and James Bracken who all together worked so hard and brought us along on their incredible journey.

Congratulations to Mark Rowley and Aideen Mulligan running for the County U14 Mixed Distance Relay Team who qualified from the heats and semi-finals through to the finals. Our very talented Drama Group came fifth in the National Finals. Congratulations to Emily McCarthy, Eoghan Smith and Sean Og Cahill. Many thanks to Paul McCarthy who managed the team. Well done to Catherine Lynch who performed so well in the U16 Solo Recitation last Sunday. Best of luck to our U12 100m Relay Team running in the National Finals this weekend again in AIT Athlone. The team members are Patrick Moran, Joe Morrissey, David Moorhead, Cormac Harte and Shane Smyth. The work from their trainers Rita Moran and Una Mulligan is much appreciated. Their Heats, Semi-Finals and Finals are on this Saturday and Sunday at 9am and 1.30pm on both days. All competitors are asked to be there an hour before their event and bring their new ID card. Please note that our secretary Eilish Quinn will be in the athletics area on both days. Wishing our U16 Group Singing members Olivia Whelan, Niamh O’Brien, Katie O’Driscoll, Michelle Mollaghan, Adam Fenelon and Alanna Carr the very best of luck in their finals this Sunday at 2pm. Thank you to Grainne Fox for coaching them to such a great standard, which we all enjoyed a sample of in the Community Centre last Saturday. The annual Killoe Community Games church gate collection took place last weekend in Ennybegs and Cullyfad. Many thanks to everyone who donated so generously.
