Ardscoil Phádraig are currently finalising their enrolment process for QQI Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. These QQI Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. They also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. Please contact the school on 043 6686209 for further details.

LEADER programme

Longford Community Resources Ltd has commenced the consultation process to develop the Local Strategy for next round of the Rural Development Programme, commonly known as the LEADER programme. Letters and submission forms are currently being circulated. National Heritage Week

The Mill is in focus on Tuesday evening the  25th August at 7pm  - an evening of story telling and a  celebration of recent enhancements -All welcome to hear about and celebrate this great visible piece of local heritage.

Pride of Place judging will take place on Tuesday, 8th September - 


Public Lecture on one of Drumlishs’ most famous sons,  William O’Higgins who was born in Barraghbeg and who laid the foundation stone for that ‘glorious undertaking’  - St. Mel’s Cathedral in the 1840s - The lecture will take place on the 15th October in Drumlish Community Centre and is part of the Longford Historical Society series of Autumn Lectures. 

Woodland Walk 

Local artist and teacher, Mary Cooney along with her students from Ard Scoil Phadraig in Granard have a Giant Mug on exhibition and are competing in the outdoor sculptures competition with ‘Ireland, the Land of a thousand Welcomes’ as the theme - that symbol of great Irish hospitality, the mug (of tea) is 8ft high, 6ft wide and cannot be missed. Make sure to enter the 1/2 door and Vote No.1 early and often- Mary is an especially gifted artist and is very involved in the creative arts at local and county level - evidence of that will be made visible in Drumlish in the coming week. 

Congratulations and Farewell

To mark the Silver Jubilee of the ordination of Fr. Patsy McDermott and also his recent appointment to Killashee Parish, there will be a simple parish get together in the 98 Hall, Ballinamuck on Saturday, 5th September at 7.30pm. More details later.

Leaving Cert

Congratulations to all the young people from the Parish who got their Leaving Cert results during the week. We wish you well in the next part of your life journey.


Congratulations to Kerry Tobin, Clondra and John Brady, Cairn Hill View who were married recently in St Mary’s Drumlish followed by the reception in the Shamrock Lodge, Athlone. On behalf of your family and friends we wish you both a long and happy life together.

Best wishes to Colin O’Hara, Kiltycreevagh, son of Mary and Brian, married Rachel Farrell, Sligo, daughter of Mary and Gerry last week in the Cathedral in Sligo. The reception was held in the Mount Falcon Estate in Ballina. We wish you both every joy and happiness in your future life together.


Congratulations and best wishes to Robert McGra, son of Bridget and the late Gerry who married Andrea Reynolds, daughter of Mary and Tom, Bornacoola. The happy couple were joined by family and friends in the Heritage in Kilinard for an all night party. On behalf of your family and friends we wish you both a lifetime of health and happiness.

Olde Fair day

The Annual Olde Fair day in Ballinamuck was a huge success this year and a credit to all involved. A huge thank you to everyone who organised and volunteered at this wonderful event. We hope you have a well earned rest and everyone is already looking forward to next year.

Marquee in Drumlish

Congratulations and well done to all involved in the organising and running of the Marquee festival. This years festival was the best yet and visitors from far and near came to dance and enjoy the festivities. Well done to all concerned.


Emerald Storm will perform in the Breffni Arms, Arva on Saturday, 22nd August at 9.30pm. This event is a fundraiser to carry out further improvements to the Latin School, Moyne. The show is seated and tickets are available in local shop. Please note that due to a clash of time with another event the show will now commence at 9.30pm.
