Whitehall N.S. Parents Association fundraising table quiz on this Friday, 14th November in The Lodge, Tarmonbarry at 8.30pm. 40 euro per table of four. Whitehall National School like many other National Schools need funding and as usual it falls back on Parents as it does in other areas of the region. Your support is very necessary. Apart from the fundraising aspect a quiz night can always lead to a few interesting debates as to whether a question has been answered right and that’s something I know all about but most of all such an event can turn out to be a wonderful social occasion for all. Don’t forget time and place and hope to see you all there.

Mickey Joe Coffey RIP.
We are saddened to report the death of Mickey Joe Coffey, Ashbrook, Scramogue which occurred last week. Mickey who only learned of his illness in recent months, was a well known character throughout the Parish and further a field. He was well known as Agricultural contractor over many years. He was also an experienced tree feller, and would have prepared firewood for many people throughout this region. Mickey Joe was just 15 years old when his mother passed away. He had to take to work with his late Dad and brother so as to provide for the rest of his brothers and sisters. There were 12 in family in total and at that stage, sadly one of Mickey Joe’s sisters had passed away at an early age. Mickey Joe was a wonderful provider for his family down through the years. It’s a sad occasion for the family so soon after Mickey Joe’s brother Patrick had passed away only months ago. Mickey Joe’s had such a fondness for his nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grandnieces and always had a treat on standby for them. Mickey Joe is survived by his brothers, sisters, Charlie, Andy, Willie, Bridie, Margaret, Veronica, Jimmy, Mary Jane. He was predeceased by Elizabeth, Eileen and Patrick. Huge numbers turned up at Mickey Joe’s home to pay their respects. On Friday last, Mickey Joe’s funeral Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church, Scramogue. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Eamon O’Connor PP, Whitehall/Scramogue assisted by Fr. Kieran Whitney PP, Strokestown and Fr John McManus PP, Kilgefin. Mickie Joe was laid to rest in Scramogue Cemetery. We send our condolences to the Coffey family.
