THANKS: Thanks from St Christophers: The Oasis was the venue on Saturday night last for a fundraising venture in aid of St Christophers Services Longford. As the night came to a close shortly after midnight it was revealed that over 2000 euro was raised for this worthy cause. The final tally will appear in next week’s notes. The legan branch of St Christophers wish to thank everybody who contributed to the night’s success. The performers ,the sponsors of auction items and raffle prizes, ticket sellers refreshment providers, the Slowey family and especially the patrons who dug deep into their pockets. Well done to all. It was a night of many highlights and this brief synopsis does not attempt to do it justice. Guessing the weight of the load of turf was a source of bountiful banter and a good earner to boot. The auction included cross channel bids for the football. There was a terrific variety of high quality musical and comic performances. The older hands will hardly mind of a special mention was made of the young ‘mad for trad’ lads along with Paddy Farrell and Luke Price. Suffice it too say that the future of traditional music is in safe hands. Footnote: The weight of the load of turf was 1940 kgs(just under 2 tonnes). The estimates ranged from 340kgs to 6000kgs. The organisers have promised not to reveal the name of the person who came up with the above upper bulky estimate. Surely it couldn’t be him could it ?
INNY ANGLERS: Draw took place on 10th June. Numbers drawn were 2,15 and 35. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners were Joe O’Neill and Caoimhe Manion. There will be a fishing competition this Sunday 24th June. Meet at school car park at 10am. We had a fishing competition and barbecue for school children on Sunday last. It was a great success and enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to the sponsors and everyone who helped out in any way.
