Cul Camp

The Kelloggs GAA Cul Camp takes place this year from the 14th to the 18th July in the GAA pitch Carrickedmond. This camp is a great way for boys and girls aged 6-13 to play the game and to learn GAA skills in a fun child friendly environment. The cost is 1st child €55, 2nd child €45 and 3rd/4th child €40 each. To book a place or for more information call 087-9126556.

Taghshnoid Cemetery

The Cemetery in Taghshinód is very overgrown at the moment. We are appealing to all those who have relatives interred in Taghshinód to come for one evening with to cut grass. We will gather for the cutting of grass on Thursday, 3rd July at 8p.m. Everyone welcome to come along and help.


The novena of prayer in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus which has been talking place in Carrickedmond church will finish on this Friday evening, the 27th June when mass and the novena prayer will take place at 8pm. This years novena which was very well attended was offered for Vocations to the priesthood, for the sick, for all doing examinations and for peace in the world.


The Carrickedmond parish council will hold their next meeting in the parish house Carrickedmond on Monday night, the 30th June at 8pm. All members are asked to attend.

Prayers for the Faithful Departed in Tashinny Cemetery on Sunday, 13th July after Mass in Carrickedmond at 10am. Mass and Prayers for the Faithful departed in Abbeyshrule Cemetery on Sunday, 27th July at 11:00am. Mass and prayers for the Faithful Departed in Abbeyderg Cemetery on Sunday 27th July at 7pm. Mass and prayers for the Faithful departed in Carrickedmond Cemetery on Sunday, 3rd August at 11a.m.

Badminton The local badminton group would like to thank all who supported their recent church gate collection. All help received is much appreciated.


All exams have now come to an end to the relief of all students who sat these state exams over the past three weeks. At last all the students can finally relax and enjoy the summer holidays. Hopefully, all are happy with their performance during the exams and we wish all good luck when the results are announced later in the summer.

First place winners in the above races represented their parish in the County Longford Community games finals which took place in Ballymahon on Sunday last. Student Award Congratulations to Gillian Farrell, daughter of Brian and Michelle Farrell, Cloughan, Abbeyshrule who was recently announced student of the year in Ballymahon Vocational School. Gillian received her award from the school principle at the awards ceremony held in the school prior to the summer holidays. Well done Gillian.

Hard luck To the Carrickedmond reserve league team who were defeated by Granard in the reserve league division two final recently.

Garda Barracks Please note that the Garda Barracks in Ballymahon will be closed for approximately six weeks to allow for upgrading works on the premises. During this time the local Gardai will operate from Lanesboro Garda station and can be contacted there at any time. If for any reason a member of the public would like to meet with the local Gardai they will be present at the Bridgeways Resource centre across the road from St Mathews church on Mondays and Fridays from 2pm to 4pm.

Sympathy Is extended to Brian Mollaghan, Longford, who is well known in the area as Brian runs the local pub in Carrickboy on the sad death of his brother Noel who passed away on Sunday morning last. May he rest in peace.
