St. Christopher’s Services
Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s Services are most grateful to everyone who supported their annual sponsored walk on Palm Sunday - €2,340 and for the annual church gate collection at Abbeylara €300.

Rath Mhuire & Dolmen Services
It was with great shock and sadness that we learned of the untimely passing of Sean Callaghan, beloved husband of Lucy and devoted father to Jackie, Laura and Ronan, our most heartfelt sympathies goes to them and all his extended family. Sean was a wonderful family man and a deeply caring and gifted man. He was a great friend to us all at Rath Mhuire & Dolmen helping us out and supporting us in so many ways and on so many occasions. He will be sadly missed. RIP.

A champagne display from Leon Fagan of 45pts wasn’t enough to win back the Tom Walsh memorial trophy. With a few Greville stars missing on the day, optimism remains high for 2015! Congratulations to Liz Brady; Frances Monahan and Anne Columb who represented Granard ICA at the recent Pitch and Putt competition in Ballinalee. The team came 3rd in the competition and Liz Brady qualified to represent Longford Federation at the All Ireland final in An Grianan in September. Congratulations to Teresa Dooner, Longford Town Guild who won the Brown baking competition in Kenagh on Monday night last. Teresa goes forward to the regional final to take place in An Grianan on 14 August next. Well done to all the ladies who entered. The annual Gardening competition is now open for entries. Please note the Flower Garden is confined to ICA members and the vegetable Garden is open to all and there is also a children’s vegetable patch. Entries and enquiries to Angela on 086-1687372.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard at 8.45pm. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s GAA and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated. Jackpot this week is €16,200.

Living Links Cavan is holding an Ecumenical Service of Remembrance for family and friends bereaved by suicide on Sunday, 29 June 2014, at 3.00 pm in St. Brigid’s Church, Killeshandra. Death by suicide is a tragedy for everyone concerned. The grief and sense of loss experienced can be overwhelming.
Happy Hearts Walking Club
Walking continues as usual every Monday evening meeting at Higginstown Sports Complex at 7pm. A new route every Monday. New members welcome, young and old.
Pitch and Putt
Competitions continue on Wednesday evenings for all members – adults and juveniles. New beginners at 7.00pm. These competitions will continue for the rest of the Summer months - weather permitting. Anybody who would like coaching lessons which are free can contact Roy Burke on 087-6636838. Roy is a registered PPUI coach. Anybody who is not a member must pay green fees €5 per day for adults and €2 for Juveniles. There was widespread shock and disbelief when news of the sudden and untimely death of Sean Callaghan of Derrycasson and formerly of Edgeworthstown became known on Tuesday afternoon last. His body reposed at the family home on Thursday evening and funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday morning in St. Columba’s Church, Mullinalaghta followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium Dublin. Sympathy is extended to his beloved wife Lucy, loving children Jackie, Laura and Ronan; sisters; brothers; mother-in-law Lucy Brady and extended family circle. May his gentle and noble soul rest in peace.
The death of Catherine Walsh, nee Mockler, Upper Main Street, Granard occurred peacefully at Beaumont Hospital on Tuesday, 17 June. Predeceased by her husband, Tommy, she is survived by her loving family - sons George, Gerry and Thomas, daughters Emily, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret and Anne, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her brother and sisters; in- laws relatives and friends. Her body reposed at Our Lady’s Manor Edgeworthstown on Wednesday evening following by removal to her late residence. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday in St. Mary’s Church, Granard, followed by burial in Granardkille Old Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
The death of Julia Halton, (nee Cronogue), Ballinamee, Castlepollard occurred suddenly at Mullingar General Hospital on Monday, 23 June. Her body reposed at the family home with removal to Church of The Immaculate Conception, Coole on Wednesday. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday followed by burial in Whitehall Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her son John; daughters Mary, Jane and Gertie Sheridan, Abbeylara; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters Bella Coyle and Kathleen Murphy; brothers Tommy, Johnny and Michael; sons-in-law nieces; nephews and extended family circle. May she rest peace.
The death of Teresa Sullivan, Cartron Bay, Sligo occurred on Wednesday, 18 June, Sympathy is extended to her son, Kevin Sullivan, Toneen, Granard and the extended Sullivan family. May they rest in peace.
