Wedding bells
Congratulations to Gary Sloane, son of Alan and Rose Sloane, Loch Gowna and Sinead Byrne, daughter of Michael Byrne, Slievemweed, Ballinglass, Co Wicklow who were married in Multyfarnham Franciscan Friary, Co Westmeath on Saturday, 14th June. Celebrant Fr PJ Fitzpatrick. The bride was given in marriage by her father attended by bridesmaids Carmel, Triona, Joanna and Claire Byrne, sisters of the bride. Best man Emmett Sloane, groomsmen Niall Sloane, Alan Carroll and Anthony Smith. Following the wedding ceremony, the bridal party and guests celebrated the occasion with a reception held in the Park Hotel, Mullingar where a good time was had by all. We wish the happy couple a long life of good health and happiness in their married life together.
Condolence
Sympathy is extended to Paul O’Donnell, Fosters Chemist, Arva on the recent death of his mother, Mrs Eileen O’Donnell. May she rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs Lucy Callghan, Sliabh Brackan, Derrycasson, Dring on the death of her husband, Sean which occurred suddenly on Tuesday, 17th June. Also sympathy to his daughters, Jackie and Laura, son Ronan, sisters brothers, sisters in law, brothers in law, mother in law, extended family and friends. His remains were removed to St Columba’s Church, Mullinalaghta on Friday morning and following funeral mass, cremation took place in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross, Dublin. May he rest in peace.
Rosie run
Rosie run in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) will take place in Loch Gowna on Sunday, 20th July at 1pm. Registration begins at 11am. Prizes to be won and refreshments will be provided in the community centre afterwards. Please support this worthy cause.
Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Patsy Keogh, Cortober, Arva and his sister, Mrs Eileen McDonald, Belturber on the recent death of their sister, Mrs Nancy Fallon, London. Also sympathy to her son, John, daughter Eileen, grandchildren, son in law and daughter in law. Funeral took place in London on Friday, 20th June. May she rest in peace.
Water safety classes
Water safety classes will take place on Gartylough Lake, Arva from Monday, 30th June to Friday, 11 July and on Fitzpatrick shore, Gowna from Monday, 14th July to Friday, 25th July. Instruction sessions are scheduled to start 11am each day and a total of 3 sessions per day will be held. Charge of 32 euro for two weeks will apply.
VTOS
Vocational training opportunities scheme VTOS. Are you aged 21 or over and for six months, either you or your wife have been in receipt of social welfare payments. Have been signing for credits or you are a loan parent. If so, you could join VTOS programme and receive training free of charge. Exposition of the blessed sacrament this Friday, 27th June, (Feast of Sacred Heart) in the church of Holy Family, Gowna from 9am to 7pm. Mass at 7pm. Please attend to honour the Blessed Sacrament.
