The waters of the Royal Canal reflected the blue sky during the Ramblers walk along the towpath from the Hill of Down to Moyvalley on Sunday, April 6th. The glorious Spring weather was complemented by the daffodils which could be seen in every garden and the primroses along banks and beneath hedges all along the way. For much of the five and a half mile walk the Canal is raised above the surrounding countryside giving views far and wide over the lush fields of County Meath, with many sheep and lambs at this time of the year. The Canal crosses high above the River Boyne at one point on a sturdy aqueduct and there is also a small harbour near Longwood. The Ramblers were not the only people out to enjoy the afternoon; there were other walkers and a fishing competition was in progress as the Group neared the end of their walk beside the picturesque Furey’s pub near Moyvalley.
There will be no walk on Easter Sunday, April 20th, so the Ramblers will meet again on April 27th for a walk in the Slieve Blooms. A Happy Easter to all Ramblers and their families.
Best wishes for a Happy & Peaceful Easter to all our readers.
