The North Longford Flying Column is the title of the first talk of 2014 by Co. Longford Historical Society. The talk will be given by Martin Morris, Archivist with Longford Co Council on this Wednesday, 5 February at 8pm in the Thomas Ashe Hall, Ballinalee.

A meeting of Granard Pitch and Putt Club will be held on this Wednesday night, 5 February at 8.30pm in St. Mary’s GAA Clubhouse. Congratulations to everyone involved in the live broadcast of Mass from the RTE Studios on Sunday morning last. It was a very positive end to Catholic Schools Week and a great honour for the school to be chosen for this production. Celebrant was Fr. Simon Cadam.
A member of St. Patrick’s Missionary Society better known as the Kiltegan Fathers will visit the parish this weekend 8/9 February and speak on their various missionary works.

Granard Happy Heart Walking Club wish to thank Brendan Doyle who joined them on Friday morning last and gave a pep talk on his walking experiences. Brendan will begin with us on Friday morning, 7 February at 10am at Higginstown Complex and put us through our paces for the next six weeks. Cost is €10 in total. The newly refurbished Department of Social Protection Local Office in Granard has reopened to the public again. Staff attend there on Monday mornings. Hours of opening are from 10am to 12 noon.

Legion of Mary
Meetings are now held in the Community Centre every Thursday night at 8.30pm. This is a special time of prayer to Our Lady. If you wish to join the Legion you are welcome to come to any of the meetings.

It is hoped that groups or individuals in the area can log events so as to avoid duplication. The next First Friday/Saturday Reparation and Adoration Vigil to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary is in the Chapel of Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Friday the 7 February commencing at 10 pm. The untimely death of Noreen Earley, (nee Cronogue), Toneymore, Abbeylara, occurred at Laurel Lodge, Longford on 30 January following a long illness bravely borne. Sympathy is extended to her husband Bernard, sons Brian, Alan and Jason, brother John, sister Jane and extended family circle. Removal took place from her late residence to St. Bernard’s Church, Abbeylara on Saturday evening and funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday morning followed by burial in Abbeylara Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
