Death of Rita Farrell

We were all shocked and deeply saddened when we heard of the sudden death on Friday morning last, 31st January, of Rita Farrell, (nee Golden), Willow Crescent, Ballymahon at Mullingar General Hospital. Rita, who was in her early ‘seventies when she passed away, was very popular with everyone locally, she was a quiet, unassuming lady who had an endearing smile. Rita worked at the Playschool “Tumblin Tots” where she was very well liked by the staff and young pupils. She liked to socialise and listen to music and enjoyed the odd flutter on the horses and the weekly Lotto. She was a most obliging neighbour who had a heart of gold and Rita liked nothing better in the long evenings that to sit back and watch a bit of comedy on the TV. Her remains lay in repose at her grand-daughter Linda’s house at Sli na Mona on Sunday and all day a steady flow of people called to pay their last respects which bore testament to the respect which was always held for Rita during her twenty year stay here among us. Rita is a native of Tubbercurry and came from a fine family of nine. She will be sadly missed. Following the Funeral Mass in a packed St. Matthews church on Monday morning, her remains were laid to rest at Carrickedmond Cemetery. We offer our deepest sympathy to Rita’s partner, Billy Ganley, to her daughters, Margaret and Teresa, sons James and Dee, brother-in-law Tommy Farrell and his wife Agnes, (Brannigan), grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, great-grandchildren, and all her relatives, neighbours and many friends. May God grant rest to her Soul.
