Tidy Towns

The committee of Tidy Towns are holding a meeting in Granard Credit Union on Monday 9 May at 9.00pm. Everyone interested are requested to attend.

Granard Area Action Group

The AGM of the group takes place on 18 May in Granard Childcare Facility The Hill Granard at 8.30pm. All interested are welcome to attend. The monthly meeting of the group will be held beforehand at 8.00pm.


The Moatsiders Active Age Group: Tuesday 3 May is the launch of the Bealtaine Festival in St. Joseph’s Longford – Bus leaving the Centre at 12.00pm sharp. Our next meeting date is 5 May 2011 at 2.30pm.. This will be a busy day as the Moatsiders are hosting a Coffee Morning in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre between 10.00- 1.00pm and we would appreciate as much support as possible for this worthy cause. Our last meeting was a very lively and interesting afternoon as our group met with Mairead Ni Chonghaile (Heritage Officer, Longford), McShaffrey Consultants and Brady Shipman Martin Architects to participate and have their say in the Public Realm Strategy for Granard. Granard Men’s Social Club

At our last get together we had a hugely enjoyable and interesting day in the Ulster Folk Museum in Omagh. Our next date for meeting is on Tuesday 10 May -current activities for the group include woodcraft, composting and a number of interesting activities are planned for the future. 2011 Single Farm Payment Clinics

The Farm Family Development Worker, with Longford Community Resources Ltd. is organising a series of information clinics to assist low income smallholders with queries regarding the 2011 Single Farm Payment Scheme are scheduled to be held in Granard on: Wednesday 4 May from 2:30pm to 4:30pm; and Wednesday 11 May 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The clinics will take place in the Granard Area Action Group offices, Main St, Granard. The closing date for the Single Farm Payment Scheme is mid-May. At these clinics farmers and smallholders will also have the opportunity to complete a Training Needs Analysis Questionnaire. For further information contact Mary Mulvey at 043-3345555 or

AG Bingo

Bingo takes place each Wednesday night at 9.00pm in the Community Centre Granard. The Jackpot is heading for €8000. Proceeds from the night go to Abbeylara and Granard GAA clubs. Your continued support is appreciated.

Vintage Tractor Run

Cavan Cancer Homecare Association are holding a Vintage Tractor Run on Sunday 5 June 2011. Entry fee is €25. Run begins at 11.45am sharp from Kilcogy Village via Kilnaleck / Ballinagh / Bruskey and return to Kilcogy to Monster Barbeque. Refreshments will be served mid-way through the run in Ballinagh.
