Our Roots in Stone

A very special record of Ardagh’s history will be launched on Friday 6th December when Luke Baxter’s book, “Our Roots in Stone,” is unveiled by Stephen Collins, political editor of The Irish Times. Our Roots in Stone, published by Luke in association with Ardagh Tidy Towns Committee, documents, with photographs, the gravestones and memorials in the lower churchyard (opposite the community centre) and in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland churchyard, both of which were the burial grounds for the people of Ardagh prior to the establishment of Ardagh Cemetery at St Brigid’s Church in 1906. This fascinating book is a permanent record of these memorials, many of which are now worn and difficult to read. All are welcome to the launch which will take place at 9.00 pm on Friday 6th December in Lyons’s red pub.

St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society

We would like to thank all those who supported the cake sale in which €750 was collected for the Society. The purpose of the society is to promote vocations to the priesthood by prayer and financial support. Thanks to generous donations made during the year, the Society was able to assist 107 Irish students and 715 students overseas.
