IRISH EUROVISION: Kasey Smith one of five hopefuls who would represent Ireland in this years Eurovision song contest has strong Leitrim connections. Her grandmother Bernadette Smith formerly Conlon from Rosalawn Mohill, she has aunts in Dromod Bornacoola Mohill and Leitrim village, not forgetting uncle Liam here in Rosdann.
Music runs in the family. Her grandfather Pat Smith and uncle PJ Smith have had no one singles in Ireland. We all wish good luck to Kasey next Saturday night 22nd February when she will sing on the Late Late Show. The winning act will be chosen using a combination of public vote and regional jury vote. Kasey is looking for major support from Leitrim. Her song is called “Kiss Me”. Please give her no 1.We all wish her to win. LAPWD MENS GROUP: The Leitrim Association of people with disabilities are re-starting activities on Tuesday 26th February 2013 from 2pm – 4pm at Station Road Mohill on that date. John Kenny Breffni Ireland Carrigallen will give a talk on furniture restoration design etc. John has asked that if any member has a small item which they would like to restore please take it along. Transport can be arranged if needed and a good attendance is necessary if this group is to continue in 2013. Come and meet old friends for a cuppa chat and enjoy the hospitality of Rosaleen and staff.
FINE GAEL AGM: The annual general meeting of the Mohill Eslin Gorvagh branch Fine Gael will take place in the Canon Donohoe Hall Mohill on Wednesday 20th February next. Some very interesting items on the agenda including the election of officers. MOHILL BRIDGE CLUB: On the 13th February last there was a full attendance at Bridge in Js hotel. SYMPATHY: The people of Mohill wish to join with me in sympathising with Kieran and Virginia O’Carolan on the death of Virginia’s father Dan McCormac, Cloonagh, Dring Co Longford who died recently. To all who mourn Dan we offer our most sincere sympathy. He is gone no further from us than to God. May his dear soul rest in peace.
MOHILL GAA LOTTO: The draw on the 11th February was held in Fitzpatricks Lr main Street. The numbers drawn were 13,16,23,26. There was no jackpot winner. Congratulations to Dearbhaile Beirne who has been selected by the juvenile committee of Athletics Ireland as 2012 county Leitrim Athlete of the year on Saturday last. Dearbhaile was presented with her award at the Tipperary Star Awards Banquet in Tullmamore Court Hotel.
WEDDING BELLS: A very pretty wedding took place in St Patricks Church Mohill when Sarah Mulligan Mohill was united in matrimony with Brendan Fitzpatrick Cloone. The ceremony with nuptial mass was performed by Rev Fr Pat Murphy PP and the lovely bride had as her bridesmaids her sisters Charlene and Melissa while Brendan had as his best man his brother Thomas. The groomsman was David Donnelly. Following the ceremony a reception for family and friends was enjoyed at the Sliabh Russel Hotel Ballyconnell.
SADIE WYNNE (GREENE): The unexpected death of Sadie Wynne beloved wife of Bernard Corraterriff Eslin who died at their residence on the 8th February 2012 has caused widespread regret in the community. Sadie was a most devoted wife, mother, granny sister and true friend. A follower of the true faith and a very active member in the community. She was a very charitable lady who loved meeting people and had a great gift of communication. We shall miss her but remember her with great affection. Her funeral mass was here in St Patricks Church Mohill on Sunday last where large crowds attended to pay their final respects and to sympathise with Bernard, their son, daughter son in law daughter in law, grandchildren, her brother and extended families.
ELIZABETH REYNOLDS (MCLOUGHLIN): There was genuine regret and deep sorrow on hearing of the death of Betty Reynolds, Stuck, who died in the loving care of the doctors nurses and staff at Rooskey Nursing Home on the 6th February 2013.Sadly she was predeceased by her husband daughter and granddaughter some years ago. RIP. Betty was a lady of deep faith who lived for her family, her home was always welcoming and it was always a pleasure to meet her. She had a wealth of knowledge from yesteryear. She died as she lived with dignity. The very large attendance at her removal to St Patricks Church and again at her con-celebrated mass was testimony to the very high esteem in which she and her family were held in the community and to whom we offer our most sincere sympathy.
ACTIVE AGE GROUP: The organising committee of Mohill Active Age Group wish to inform its members that the weekly meeting held each Wednesday in the Canon Donohoe Hall will resume this Wednesday 20th February at 3pm. All members are invited to attend as plans are being made to organise activities and outings for the Spring Summer season 2013. New members always welcome . Come along greet new friends and enjoy.
THE FIELD: On this Saturday night 23rd February at 8pm the World famous play “The Field” by John B Keane will be performed by the Glenasmole Drama Group, Dublin and staged in Cloone Community Centre. Don’t miss this play.
ASSORTED FITNESS MOHILL: A new set of ladies Zumba Fun and Fitness sessions will be starting on next Monday 25th February in Js Hotel, Main Street at 9.15pm. Anyone is welcome to pop in and try it out for just 5 euro.
GARDENING TIME: Keen plantsman and feature writer for the Irish Garden James Wickham will be providing an inspirational and illustrated talk on trees for all gardens at 8.30pm on Tuesday 26th February at the Canon Donohoe Hall. This event is facilitated by Mohill ICA with service to the community & all genders welcome. Light refreshments and raffle.
