Alzheimer’s Society Fundraiser
The recent fundraiser in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society which was hosted by the Coffee Shop, Fore, on Thursday, May 7th, was very well supported. The fundraiser raised 1177.69 euro for the Society. Very well done to all concerned.
The late Kathleen Murtagh
The local and North Westmeath community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place on Tuesday, June 16th, peacefully in the loving care of the staff of St. Camillus’ Nursing Centre, Killucan, of Kathleen Murtagh, Hillside Drive, Mullingar, and Lake Road, Collinstown. The remains reposed in St. Camillus’ Nursing Centre Chapel on Thursday, June 18th, from 3.30pm followed by Mass at 5.30pm. Removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Collinstown, arriving at 7.15pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 11.00am on Friday, June 19th, and internment took place afterwards in the local cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Kathleen was a daughter of the late Edward and Peggy Murtagh, and had been employed by Failte Ireland. She will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her brothers Seamus, John and Pat, sisters Eilish and Margo, brothers-in-law Al and Johnny, sisters-in-law Caroline and Martha, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Castlepollard Library are once again holding their Summer Reading Challenge, in the form of the Summer Reading Buzz, which runs until the end of August. The aim of the challenge is to help children improve their reading and literacy skills, and for every four books read, they receive a reading reward from the library, and for eight books, they receive another reading reward. When the loyalty card they receive on registration is full, or the challenge has finished in August, participants can return the cards and they will be entered into the Castlepollard Summer Reading Buzz draw. Entries are still being accepted, so register now and enjoy The Buzz!
Charity Tractor Run
The Charity Tractor Run, held in Collinstown in memory of the late Feichin Nolan, on Sunday last, June 21st, was very well supported, with approximately 120 tractors participating in the 35 kilometre route. All funds raised on the day were in aid of Pieta House.
As part of their current fundraising drive Castlepollard Hurling Club are holding a Recycle Day on Saturday next, June 27th, from 10.00am to 2.00pm at the GAA Centre, Pakenhamhall Road, Castlepollard. Unwanted items such as clothes, textiles, unwanted mobile phones or laptops can be donated. Clean clothing, bed linen, curtains, towels, soft toys etc., laptops must be intact with leads, mobile phones are accepted. no household bric a brac. Fore 5k and 10k Run
Next Wednesday, June 24th, sees the annual Fore 5K & 10K road race, fun run and walk taking place, organised once again by Ballycamoyle GFC. The 5K event will follow the usual route, while the newly organised 10K event will takein The Cut at Collinstown, returning to Fore village via Ankerland.
