Gardening Club

The next meeting of Castlepollard Gardening Club takes place on Friday evening next, October 4th, at 8pm in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard. Mary Stafannazi will give a talk on creativity and the garden. All are welcome.

Death

The entire local North Westmeath community, and further afield, were saddened to learn of the death which took place, peacefully, following a long illness bravely borne, at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, on Monday, September 23rd, of Mrs Nuala Nea, (nee Bird), Ringtown, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at her residence on Tuesday, September 24th, with evening prayers at 9pm and removal to the Church of St. John the Baptist, Whitehall, on Wednesday, September 25th, at 12 noon. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 12.30pm, with interment aferwards to the adjoining cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held.

Nuala had been predeceased by her beloved huband Paddy in 1981. An avid Bingo player, she was a staunch supporter of Ringtown Hurling Club, as well as the Meath Football team (being a Meath woman) and took great interest in all community affairs and projects. Nuala was very active in the ICA, and was devoted to her family. She will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her daughter Fionnuala, sons Gerry, Anthony, Michael, Kevin, Martin and Patrick, brother Chris, sister Rosaleen, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relative and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

Castlepollard Book Club will meet in Castlepollard Library on Tuesday, October 8th, between 6.45pm and 7.45pm, the book discussion is “Pigeon English” by Stephen Kelman.
