GAA Fundraiser

Carrickedmond GAA club are appealing for support from all in the parish to help cover the cost of drainage to the local GAA pitch which is ongoing at present. When complete the pitch will be available and playable all year round for everyone from children up to adult age. This is a large project been undertaking by the club and it is hoped that everyone will give their backing and help with costs and expenses to work been carried out. Committee members will be calling to all households in the parish over the coming weeks asking for help with the cost of the project or if you would like to make a donation to this project or would like more information please contact the club mobile number at 0858515392 or any club committee member.

Defibrillator Group

Two year re-certification classes are currently ongoing and are taking place in the parish hall, Carrickedmond. All concerned are asked to please indicate by return text if you can attend this class when contacted. For any information on location of defibrillators, classes etc please contact Seamus McGuire at 086-8286748, Anthony Greene at 086-3993933 or Kathryn Keenan 0868226894 as it is intended to run a course for new people in April.

Hard Luck

To the Colehill NS mixed football team who were defeated in the division 2A final by Dromard in Pearse Park last week. The team got off to a bad start conceding three early goals but played better in the second half and the game was more evenly contested for the second half. With most of the team available for next year hopefully this young team can go one better in 2016.

Credit Union Scholarship The Student Scholarship, sponsored by Ballymahon & District Credit Union is operational again this year. It is open to all Leaving Cert students attending the Vocational and Mercy Secondary Schools in Ballymahon. The student must be completing a FÁS Apprenticeship, full-time Certificate, Diploma or Degree course at any university, IT or approved third level college. All students who wish to enter the draw must be member of the Credit Union before 31 May 2015. The recipient of the Scholarship will receive €1,000 per annum for a maximum of three years.

Community Games

The Carrickedmond community games Field event day took place in Forgney football pitch on Sunday last. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part on a very wet day in the field events. Congratulations to all the winners who will now go on to represent the parish in the county finals which will take place later in the summer in Ballymahon. A full list of winners will appear in next week’s notes.

To the Longford senior team who take on Offaly in the first round of the Leinster senior football championship on Sunday next in Tullamore. Good luck also to our two representatives from the parish on the panel Barry and Garreth.

First Holy Communion

For boys and girls from the parish will take place in Carrickedmond church on Saturday the 23rd May.

Fleadh Winner

Congratulations to Lauren McGuire who won the U-12 slow air fiddle competition at the county Fleadh held in Edgeworthstown on Sunday last. Lauren who is a pupil of the Geraldine Mc Glynn School of music will now represent Longford at the Leinster Fleadh which will this year take place in Maynooth Co. Kildare on the weekend 10th, 11th and 12th July 2015. Best of luck Lauren.

Darkness into Light

Well done to the organizers and to all who took part in the local walk in aid of Pieta House which was held in Carrickedmond on Saturday morning last. All money raised will now be presented to this very worthy cause.

Senior Citizens Mass

A mass for all senior citizens from the parish will take place in St Sinneach’s Hall, Carrickedmond on Saturday next the 16th May commencing at 2pm. Following mass refreshments will be served.


To the Carrickedmond Ladies senior football team and management team who recorded a great win over Drumlish in the Division 2 League Cup Final in Ardagh on Sunday last. Best of luck to all now as they prepare for the upcoming championship.


Is extended to Damian Gilchriest, Carrickedmond on the death last week of his father, John-Joe Gilchriest, Longfield, Edworthstown and to John Lenehan, Torboy on the death of his sister in law Antoinette Lenehan, Moydow whose funeral also took place last week. May they both now rest in peace.
