Abbeyshrule Canoe Club

Will hold their AGM in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule on Monday the 16th March at 8pm. The AGM is a great opportunity for non-members to find out about the club activities and the benefits of club membership. Membership is open to adults and children from 7 years upwards and will be taken up on the night. Interested people are invited to come along. Walking Group

The local walking group continues with their weekly walk from the complex in Carrickedmond at 8:30pm on Monday and Thursday nights up to Thursday up to the 2nd April 2015. These walks are open to male and female walkers and remember to bring your high vis coats.

Folk Group

Rehearsals continue in Carrickedmond church on Wednesday nights from 8pm to 9pm. Next folk mass will take place in Carrickedmond church on Sunday 29 March ’15 at 10am mass. The group will also sing at mass in Carrickedmond church on St Patrick’s Day at 10am. New members always welcome.


Congratulations to the Longford Falcons U-12 girl’s basketball team who were winners last weekend of the U-12 Regional Basketball Blitz cup final which took place in Cavan town basketball arena. Local girls Caoimhe Mulvey, Lea Shannon and Lauren McGuire were members of the Falcons team and all three played their part in this great win. The team’s manager is another local woman and renowned basketball player Michelle Mulvey. Well done all.


Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Paula Lee Sapper, wife of Charles K. Sapper and sister of Winnie McNamara, Abbeyshrule. Paula passed away recently in San Francisco. May she rest in peace.

The Samaritans group would like to thank everyone from the area who supported their recent church gate collection which was taken up at masses in the parish. A total of €78.28 was collected.

Tashinny National School

Will host an Open Day for prospective parents and children on Wednesday 18th March from 4pm to 6pm. This will be an opportunity for families who may be interested in enrolling their children in Tashinny School to visit the school, meet the teachers and view the facilities. Friday 17th April at the home of Nancy Mullen for the Abbeyshrule area at 8pm. Friday the first May at the home of Carmel Nally for the Ratharney area at 9pm.

Mass for Lent

Continues in Carrickedmond church on every Monday morning during Lent at 7am.

First Friday

This Friday the 6th March is the first Friday of March. Mass in Carrickedmond church at 7pm. Fr Charlie will carry out the usual calls to the housebound on Friday.
