Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Tuesday 24th February 2015. The Jackpot was €8,050. Numbers drawn - 04 / 12 / 19 / 29 – no winner. €50 each – Anne Hughes, Cortober. Paddy and Mary Mulligan, Woodlands. Joe Mulligan, Smear.. The Jackpot on Tuesday night last 3rd March was €8,900. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 27th May to 1st June and Bookings for the Pilgrim Section should be made through the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cullies, Cavan. Bookings for the Assisted Pilgrim Section should be made with Fr Kevin Fay, Lavey, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan.

Fr Sheamie Cullen, Gartylough, Arva has returned to his Ministry in Japan following an extended holiday at home. The good news for his many friends is that he will be back to celebrate a wedding at Easter time. Fr Sheamie spends his holidays visiting old friend and renewing acquaintances and we look forward to his return at Easter.
The Sick and Housebound will be visited this Friday, 6th March after the 10am Mass. St. Mary’s National School - Centenary
The book Committee are currently looking for old photos, stories, poems and memories from past pupils of the school. They are also looking for names of past pupils who became priests or nuns over the years. If you can help in any way, please contact the school on 049-4335560.
St. Mary’s National School Parents Association are holding a Table Quiz on Friday, 13th March at 8pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel. Teams of four €40 per table. Please support this fundraiser as all proceeds will go towards Centenary Celebration projects. All welcome.
St. Mary’s National School are currently taking orders for St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock lapels. Each lapel costs €4 with the school retaining €2 in commission. Orders can be place by contacting the school on 049-4335560 by Wednesday 4th March 2015.

This St Patrick’s Day Arva will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their St Patrick’s Day Parade which will take place at 3pm with large cash prizes for best floats and a commemorative plaque for the Best Dressed Window. We extend a warm welcome to one and all.

Colmcille Gardening Club invite you to a “Talk on Gardening” by Fiann Ó Nualláin the Award Winning Garden Designer, Author and TV / Radio Broadcaster. Topics may include “Grow your own Vegetables”, Sustainable Gardening, Top 12 Easy to Grow Super Foods, First Aid for Garden Plants,. The talk will take place on this Saturday 7th March at 2.30 pm in Colmcille Community Centre. Admission €5-00 including refreshments and everybody is welcome to attend.
Special Olympics Ireland urgently requires volunteers in the Cavan and Longford area’s to help with their charity Collection Day on Friday, 24th April. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The money raised on the day will be used to ensure that Special Olympics Ireland can continue to realise its promise of offering people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in sport in their area. Dog foulingFollowing our recent item in the Arva news regarding dogs fouling the streets, Councillor Winston Bennett approached Cavan County Council and signs have been erected throughout the town advising dog owners that they are required by law to clean up after their dogs. There is a fine of €4,000 for this offence and dog owners are requested to take heed of these warnings.
