Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday 8th December. Jackpot €7,500 – Numbers drawn 2 / 5 / 10 / 19 – No winner. €50 each – Paddy Grimes, Mostrim. Annette Hamilton, Arva. Annette & Rian Sheridan, Crott. The Jackpot on Monday night last 15th December was €7,550. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. Race Nite: The Arva GAA Club are holding an Evening at the Race’s on 26th December and members are looking for people to support their efforts. It should be a great evenings craic with hopefully lots of people home for the Festive Season and it will provide an ideal opportunity to meet up with old friends. Horses are on sale at €20 each. All cards should be returned to Cyril Sheridan immediately.

Convention: We say hard luck to Elaine Cully who contested the position of PRO at the Cavan GAA Convention on Thursday night last in the Hotel Kilmore. We say well done to Mark O’Rourke who won the vote and wish him well in the coming years. We also congratulate Gowna man Gerry Brady who was elected unopposed as Chairman for the next 5 years. Gerry is a former Arva player and a great supporter of charity events in Arva and we wish him every success in the top position.

U 21 Championship: St Josephs played Ramor United on Sunday last on the 3G Pitch, Kingspan Breffni Park in the Final of the Hotel Kilmore U-21 Championship and after a great hours football they emerged victorious on a score St Joseph’s 1-13 Ramor United 0-8. Ryan Connolly opened the scoring with a pointed free after 3 minutes and Jonathan Mc Cabe added another from play in the 5th minute. Ramor opened their account in the 10th minute but St Joseph’s hit back through Francis Lunney (11 min), Connolly (12 min) and Kevin Bouchier (13 min) to lead 0-5 to 0-1. Ramor reduced the lead in the 15th minute but Conal Sheridan restored the 4 point lead in the 20th minute. Ramor had 2 points in the 22nd / 23rd minutes while Connolly closed the scoring from a free in the 27th minute to leave it 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval. Ramor had their best spell after the restart with points in the 3rd / 6th and 14th min’s but St Joseph’s had points from Sheridan (4 min) and Mc Cabe (10 min) to keep them 2 points in front. Bouchier pointed for St Joseph’s in the 17th minute with Connolly on target in the 20th minute. We then witnessed a class piece of play from Bouchier when he somehow ghosted through the Ramor United defence and passed to Connolly who shot to the net in the 22nd minute. Ramor replied a minute later with a good point but the winners finished strongly with points from Sheridan and Connolly in the 28th / 29th minutes to leave them worthy winners. St Vincent de Paul annual church gate collection was taken up last weekend 13th / 14th December in Arva / Coronea. The local branch would like to thank everyone for their generosity in the past and also to the Clutterbug Charity Shop for their donations during the year.

Santa Claus

Santa Claus came to Arva on Saturday evening last arriving at the Market Square, Arva to switch on the Christmas Tree lights and meet all the boys and girls in St Patrick’s Hall where he distributed gifts to all. The Arva Area Development Association wish to thank everyone for the support of the Santa Christmas Draw, the large attendance at the switching on of the Christmas lights and at Santa’s grotto in the Hall. Free Spirit Yoga group taking place each Thursday evening at 9pm and Saturday morning at 11am in the Memorial Hall, Arva. We welcome everyone from beginners to the advanced.

Turkey Trot

Arva Trotters invite you to join us in the Turkey Trot 5k & 10k on St. Stephen’s Day at 12.30pm. Starting at the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. Donations are welcome with all proceeds going to Enable Ireland.

Crumlin Hospital

Hughie Brady would like to thank everyone who contributed to his recent fundraising for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin. This year the Walk took place in Croatia and the support Hughie received is most gratefully appreciated.

Line Dancing

The Breffni Kickers Line Dancers will hold their Christmas Party this Thursday night in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. With dancers from other areas attending it is always a great night of fun and dancing. Classes will resume in mid January.

Active Age

The committee would like to thank Eamonn & Philomena Gray and their staff for the beautiful meal they received at their party in the Breffni Arms Hotel on Sunday week last. They also thank Eddie Quinn who kept the musical entertainment flowing, all the local traders and others who donated spot prizes to make it a most enjoyable evening. Corlisbratten Methodist Church

Will hold a Carol Service on this Friday night, 19th December at 8pm with

supper afterwards and everybody warmly invited. Christmas Eve Service at 4pm on Wednesday, 24th December. No monthly Praise Service at the end of December – next Service on Sunday, 4th January at 10am.
