Family Fun Cycle
Ringtown Hurling Club are holding a Family Fun Cycle on Sunday, August 17th, starting from Ringtown Centre, and heading out to Multyfarnham, before returning to Whitehall. The event starts at 12.00 noon, and there will be a barbeque in Ringtown later in the afternoon. The event is non-competitive and entry fees are adults 10 euro, and family groups 20 euro. Hopefully, the weather will be co-operative and be fine and sunny on the day.
The late Michael Cooney
The local North Westmeath community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place peacefully on Monday, July 21st, of Mr. Michael Cooney, Dublin Road, Castlepollard, and formerly of Shercock, Co. Cavan. The remains reposed at his residence, Dublin Road, on Saturday, July 26th, from 5.00pm, with Rosary at 9.00pm. Removal took place on Sunday, July 27th, arriving at St. Michael’s Church at 7.00pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Monday, July 28th, at 12.00pm, and burial took lace immediately afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Michael was a native of Shercock, Co. Cavan, and was a shopkeeper by trade, along with his late wife Rita, who predeceased him in 2007. He will be sadly missed not alone by his immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his brother James, sisters Anne and Peggy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
Tullynally Challenge 5k
The countdown is rapidly approaching completion for the annual Tullynally Challenge 5K which takes place on Wednesday, August 13th, starting at 8.00pm for the main event. Some traffic disruption is to be expected, and motorists are asked for their cooperation and goodwill during the running of the main event, and also during the Short Races (300m/600m) which will take place around the Square from 7.00pm catering for U-7, U-9, U-11 and U-13. The main event follows the tried and tested route starting on Pakenhamhall Road, out to the Castle grounds and anti-clockwise around the diamond, and back into Castlepollard. Chip timing is available for accurate race timing. Registration for the Tullynally Challenge 5K takes place in Hotel Castlepollard, and all finishers in the main event will receive a complimentary Goody Bag. Showers and refreshments will be available after the event, and prizegiving and spot prizes will be given afterwards in Hotel Castlepollard. Prize fund this year is 2,500 euro, and there will be prizes for the first 6 Seniors, 6 Master categories, U-20’s (Juniors), Walkers, 3 team prizes and local category prizes. Entry fees are Seniors - 13 euro, U-20’s and Walkers - 10 euro, and U-16s 5 euro.
