Heliuim Music Festival Presentation

A cheque for €9,500 was presented last week to representatives from Ataxia Ireland by Mike Delaney and Barney Mulvihill of last years Helium Music Festival Committee. An enjoyable and very well attended function was held in Skelly’s on the night to mark the occasion. Well done again to the hard-working volunteers who worked so hard in the build up to the Festival in June 2013 which resulted in this fine sum being donated to a very worthy cause.

Day Care Centre

Ballymahon Day Care Centre has closed for the month of August for the holiday season. The Centre will re-open on Monday, 1st September. We hope you all have an enjoyable break.

Journalism Course

Longford Women’s Link (LWL) are planning on running a Journalism Course in September 2014. The Course will run over 10 weeks, on Wednesday nights between September 24th and November 26th. It will appeal to men and women alike and will cover Journalism, use of language, News reporting, Compiling and Editing newsletters, Interviewing skills etc. For more information on the Course, which is limited to 12 participants, please contact Pamela Latimer, Education and Training, Business Development Manager,LWL. Pilgrimage to Mellery Grotto

A bus will be travelling to Mellery Grotto on 16th August and will pick up passengers from this area in Edgeworthstown at 5.15p.m. To book a seat please contact Anna Brady at 049-4336291 or 087-2549460.

Bus to Knock

A bus will travel to Knock Shrine for the annual Novena on Thursday, 14th August at 5p.m. from the centre of town. This is earlier than usual due to road works on the way. If you wish to travel, please contact Sr. Vincent at 09064 32532 or Ita at 04493 57589.

Social night

Ballymahon GAA Club are holding a social night in Nally’s Pub on Saturday, 8th August. All members of Ballymahon/Forgney Gaels Minor Club are invited to attend. There will be no entrance charge. The senior team are having a BBQ in Cooney’s Hotel on Saturday, August 18th. Tickets are available from club members at €5 each. There will be spot prizes and music on the night. The BBQ will be served from 7.30p.m. Please support. Everyone welcome.

Ballymahon/Forgney Ladies

Are holding a fundraising Golf Classic at Mount Temple golf club on Saturday 9th August. Tee times from 9.00a.m. Entry fee €100 per team of four.

Ladies victory

Congratulations to the Co Longford Ladies football team who won the Leinster Intermediate Final in Clane, having beaten All-Ireland Junior champions Offaly with a great scoreline of 2-14 to 2-5. Well done to local ladies Geraldine McManus, Terlicken (Ballymahon/Forgney) and Michelle Noonan (Carrickedmond) who played with the team.

The Irish Kidney Association will be having their annual church gate collection throughout Co Longford this coming weekend, 9th and 10th August. Your support will be very much appreciated.

Tidy Towns

The twice weekly clean ups continue on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings and anyone is welcome to come and help out with the tidy towns work. The meeting place is Ballymahon Library on Wednesday at 7.00p.m. and on Sunday at 9.00a.m.
